How does Ladies U-Knighted (LUK) Contribute?

LUK contributions are three-fold:

  1. We organize charity programs, such as a used cell phone drive for battered women and a clothing drive for the needy. We also assist the Knights of Columbus (KofC) in their annual KOVAR events, helping to raise funds for the mentally disabled.

  2. We conduct fundraising, by selling cookbooks with recipes from the KofC community, and by selling Christmas ornaments, Easter baskets, and hand-made crafts. We hold bake sales, have a Redskins ticket raffle, and occasionally sell hot dogs at an event called “Hot Dog Knight.” We’ve also organized book signings. Proceeds for these fundraisers are used to refurbish the Old Council Home, which is used by all!

  3. We hold fun events, such as the Halloween Party, bake sales, and Christmas Tree Decorating Night. These fun-filled events bring together LUK and KofC members, as well as folks from the surrounding community.

Our mission statement sums it up: “We will work together to support and promote the goals and endeavors of the Knights of Columbus, Edward Douglass White Council No. 2473, by raising funds through volunteer efforts.” We always have fun in the process!

What is the history of LUK?
The original ladies auxiliary, known as the Columbine Club, was active from 1951 to the late 1980s. By the early 1990s, their traditions were all but forgotten. Then in 2001, a small group of women started a “grassroots” effort to re-establish the ladies group, calling it “Ladies U-Knighted” to reflect the women's strong support of the Knights of Columbus. We even have an active member who was part of the original Columbine Club. Now that's dedication! Our emblem shows a woman’s hands holding a heart encircling the KofC emblem to demonstrate our heart-felt commitment to their charge.
